'Having already climbed the summits of Snowdon and Ben Nevis earlier in the year, on Saturday 20th October 2007 we climbed Scafell Pike from the Wasdale car park via Lingmell Beck, Brown Tongue route. The views were magnificent on a beautiful clear day. Took some nice photos before returning to the Screes Inn at Nether Wasdale to have a few beers and watch the rugby world cup final. Shame England couldn't round off a great day by winning.

This a photo showing my wife Suman at the summit of Sca Fell Pike on Thurs
25 10 2007. She set herself the challenge of climbing England's highest mountain for her 40th birthday - and did it! She's not a regular fell walker, indeed most of her walking consists of a stroll up the high street!
I'm very proud of her and love her very much ...

Hi,
My younger brother Thomas and I climbed Skafell Pike earlier on this summer, on Thursday 30th August 2007. We came up from the road from Great Langdale via Angle Tarn, quickly scaling the final ridge and getting to the summit from the north, then continued down the East side of the scree slope between Skafell Pike and Skafell, back towards the Crinkle Crags. On descending, we became immersed knee-deep in marshy bogs before wading out eventually and hitch-hiking home. A big adventure!

Find attached picture of David Little and Ali Garrigan of University of Manchester Hiking Club up Scafell Pike (13/10/07). Weather was pretty miserable, but it was an ace day and had lots of fun climbing the scree.

Hi there
On 12th September we woke in our tent at Church Stile Camp Site to find a lovely day - just right for climbing Scafell Pike. We decided to go by the easy route - from Wasdale Head main carpark we trekked across the fields and contoured up around the fell side. What wonderful views of the lake in the autumn sunshine. Having stopped for a cuppa coffee we started up and up and up again. There were a lot of people on the hill today, all enjoying the clear views down to the coast and across the other fells. On getting to the top - wow what a view. The clouds were touching the tops of some of the mountains, but did not spoil the enjoyment of being on top of England's highest point.

Sorry I can’t be more personal…. No name given!
We had a brilliant few days in Wasdale earlier this year, staying in the splendid Wasdale Yurt……an experience we can seriously recommend. It’s a bit like the tardis; looks small on the outside, but vast on the inside we thoroughly enjoyed it!!
Whilst there, the whole family (all six of us) headed for the top of Scafell Pike via Wasdale Head on 11th July (2007) and frankly the weather could no have been better. Jojo, our 8 year old, shot up like a cork and made mincemeat of what must have seemed and impossible task. Sadly the top was covered in mist, but the boys discovered an abandoned umbrella (who on earth would take one up there??) and spent a good 20 minutes or so trying to use the drag to help them clamber over the last 300 metres to the top. A gust of wind finally put paid to that idea and the umbrella took off, never to be seen again…
Herewith a pic of the family up at the top. Next year, another peak. The question is, which?
Yours aye,
James Maberly

This is Matthew aged 8 on top of Scafell Pike on his first attempt on Thursday 9th August 2007. The party consisted of Matthew, his parents Phil and Judie, and Judie's sister Gill. We went up from Seathwaite via Esk Hause (slightly by mistake as we weren't originally aiming in that direction)! We had fantastic weather until we got towards Esk Hause when it got cold and we could see that all the peaks were completely covered in cloud. However as we reached the top - Matthew as ever way ahead of his parents! - the cloud lifted and we had spectacular views in all directions. We returned via the corridor route using Wainwright and found the path completely disappeared near the ravine - requiring a quick scramble up very steep grass and rock to get back to the main path down to Sty Head. A long and satisfying day. Matthew has now also beaten us up Scafell, Great Gable and Green Gable, along with several other less lofty peaks. Bring on Skiddaw and Helvellyn next time!

Hi there
These are pics of my husband Al Waterston and myself ,Kath Waterston. We were staying at the Barn Door campsite over the August Bank Holiday. What a lovely place to be. On Sunday 26th August `07 we walked up to Styhead Tarn with the intention of climbing Great Gable, but we had plenty of time to spare so we decided to go up to Scafell Pike instead.!! It was a hard slog up there but well worth the effort, we felt really proud of ourselves to have made it to highest point in England.I only wish we`d gone back down the same way,we came back down the way that Wainwright described in one of his books as being the tourist route....my poor knees and feet. All the aches and pains were so forgotten though after a hearty meal and a few glasses of beer at the fab Wasdale Head Inn.Can`t wait to go back again soon.
regards
Kath and Al Waterston

Hi, I have been trying to send these snaps to you for a while now and struggled from my home PC, hence the e-mails from work, so apologies if one of the e-mails has already found its way to you!!
We (Julian Daniel age 42, wife Lynda age 40, Daughter Fay age 14 and Dad John age 67) climbed Scarfell Pike for the first time on Friday 24th August in celebration of my wife’s 40th birthday. We climbed via the Brown Tongue and then made the scramble up Mickledoor, it was a very hot day and remained clear until we reached the top when the cloud and mist descended spoiling the views. It took us 4 hours to climb and 2 ½ hours down (must have been the thought of a pint in the Wasdale Head Inn!)
We have been talking about doing this climb for years, and can actually see the mountains around Wasdale Head from our Caravan which is about 5 miles away in Saltcoats, it was fantastic to achieve this as a family and share the amazing experiences.
Thanks to Rob, Becky and Chris for guiding us up and giving plenty of encouragement.
I would really appreciate it if you could put my pictures on the website for all to see.
Thanks

Please add Jack BOYDEN (13)and Phoebe to your hall of fame.
' We climbed Scafell Pike on Thursday the 9th August 2007, via Wasdale Head, to Styhead Pass. We traversed under Great End, past the tarns and then up a busy Esk Hause to summit. We could see miles as it was such a clear day. We then descended via Brown Tongue to the campsite. Dad then treated me to a large plate of Gammon Egg and Chips at the Bridge PH at Santon to celebrate a brilliant day'
Thanks very much,
Martin Boyden

Hi,
I climbed Scarfell Pike on 4 August 2007 with two friends, Jon and Tamsin. The summit was covered in cloud and the photo dosen't show too much! We had a bit of trouble following the route on the way down and ended up back at The Wasdale Head Inn, very wet, at 9:45pm. Luckily they saved us some food!
All-in-all we had a thoroughly good time and can't wait to do it again in better weather.
Please can I have one of your certificates?
Thanks, Richard Edwards

Hi. Enclosed is a picture of Finn Avison on top of Scafell Pike on 7th August 2007. A frequent walker from his home in the Dales it was his first serious walk in the Lake District and what better place to start! Ascended from Wasdale Head via Sty Head pass and round the back of Great End, down via Lingmell Coll and the spine of Lingmell. A clear view from the top. Thoroughly enjoyable trip

We read with interest that you sent us a certificate if we had made it up Scafell Pike here is our picture.
We had a fabulous week in Wasdale and were welcomed by all. Many thanks to the web for masses of information before we came.
Carole, Doug, Erin and Josh Meikle

On Friday the 20th of July 2007, 2.45pm; myself Tony James & my fiancé Bridgett Plant reached the summit of Scafell Pike.
After arriving at Keswick on Monday the 16th of July, we pitched our tent up at Castle rigg and primed ourselves in for the big one by reaching the summit's of Cat Bells and Skiddaw on the tuesday and wednesday of that week. Then it was down to Ambleside on the thursday for a bit of relaxation, sight-seeing and a nice comfy bed at the Fern Cottage Guest house before setting off Friday morning along Hardknott Pass to reach the car park at Wasdale Head for 12.30pm.
The route we took pointed us in the direction Lingmell Beck. From there we crossed Lingmell Gill before starting the ascent of Brown Tongue. From There we reached Hollow Stones at the brow of the hill and took the path that forks off to the left. Along the winding path of the crags we approached the summit from the north and by 2.45pm we joined a dozen walkers who had just come to rest at the highest peak in the country. An amazing end to an even more amazing week of our first ever trip to the Lakes. Im sure there will be plenty more to come.
Hope this makes a positive contribution to your excellent website.
Keep up the good work.
Tony & Bridge

Irene Small and Kev Holmes conquered the pike on the 10th of july 2007. Charlie thought it was good fun too

Hi, my partner (Dave Moulds) and myself (Alicia Kilworth) reached Scafell Pike Summit on 19th May 2007. It took about 5 hours in the sleet, rain and cold wind. But was a great experience! We made it to the top but unfortunately as you can see from our pictures it was foggy and cold.
We did the walk for Macmillan Cancer Support and between us raised about £200.

My Husband, myself and our little Jack Russell 'Shearer' walked Scafell along with about another 100 people for Macmillan on 19th May 2007. We managed the corridor route, the day had mixed weather and unfortunately when we reached the top you could see very little. As we started our descent the weather changed and the next group up got some great views. Enclosed are a picture of Me, shearer and Ian one of the guides at the summit, My husband and me on the way back down and some of the beautiful views.
Hope we make the website!

This is a photograph of a rather grumpy Clare Mawson on top of Scafell Pike on 21st June 2007. This was Clare's first attempt at fell-walking since she had been led into waist deep snow on Helvellyn by her primary school teachers which almost put her off the Lake District for life. We took the Sty Head Pass, Corridor Route to the summit, but chose the Broad Crag col ascent rather than the Lingmell col tourist route and Clare was less than pleased with her guide after scaling the scree on her hands and knees! The Mickledore Ridge route down was no more pleasant either but once on firmer ground and after a good sleep it was Clare who decided that an assault on Kirk Fell was required the following day!

Here we are on top of Scafell Pike, Saturday 9th June 2007 . What a fantastic day we had! We started at Seathwaite, via Stockley bridge, Styhead tarn and the Corridor route, returning via Broad crag, Ill crag, Great End and Esk hause.
We are Eric Field, Brian Glover,Tony Goodwin, Nigel Hay, Dave Leggett, Andy Mills and Paul Tudor.

Hi Wasdale Web,
On 1st June Mike, Sarah, Joanna and I (Graham) made it to the top from Seathwaite Farm and back down to Wasdale Head for supper. A wonderful experience to add my Snowdon and Ben Nevis, and much more of a challenge than Ben!
I am still collecting for charity on www.justgiving.com/tonksey2007 as the others including Richard did Skiddaw on the 2nd and we all did Hellvelyn on Sunday. Thanks to all at Maximum Adventure for all their organization and help in making a weekend walking a relaxing and fun holiday.

My wife and I climbed the Pike on 2 May 2007. We started at 7.45am from the NT campsite and reached the top at 11.45 via Brown Tongue and back in the pub another 3 hours later.
It was a beautiful sunny day and the views were glorious. When we got to the top we were alone having seen only one other person who passed us on the way up and who we met again latter on his way down. We passed many going up on our way down and were glad we had started early to miss the heat of the day.
Wonderful experience that I had been wanting to have for many years - as you can see we are not in the first flush of youth!

Hi
My friend Ian Owens and myself Andrew Livesey walked to the top of Scafell Pike 14th April 2007. Spectacular weather, incredibly hot! It was great to see everyone enjoying their walk to the top.
Ian and I did the walk to celebrate my 29th birthday a few days later.
Thanks to Ian for the support and friendship.
All the best, great site
Andy Livesey

Hi
We climbed Scafell Pike on 1/5/07. We were staying in a caravan in Flookburgh for the week and drove to Wasdale Head that morning. It was a beautiful day though visibility was a little hazy at the top - and we couldnt believe the strength of the wind up there. It took us three and a half hours to get to the summit (though this was partly due to Paul having discussions on football with many of the people we passed - he was wearing his Man City cap).
We had a look at the National Trust camp Site on the way and will be back again asap with our tent in order to do Great Gable. We cant wait!

Hi
I would really appreciate it if you could put this picture on your website!
Many thanks

26th April 2007
Have just succeeded in our ambition of climbing the three peaks! Scafell was the last and the most enjoyable as it was the only one where it didn't completely pour down and we could see the beautiful scenery.
John Harrison (67) and Doug Sample (68) - Not bad going eh?

Hi my two girls Georgina, Alanna and the wife Yvonne on top of the Pike on Easter Sunday, as is the way good clear weather on the climb just to find as we get to the top of the Mickledore the clouds rolled in, so no views from the top, but they made it not without some complaints on route but pleased to know they reached the top of England

Every year we get away some ware for a walk and scarfell pike was the most memorable walk for all of us 28/12/05. It defiantly wont be the last time

ON THE SUMMIT AT 4!!
On Wednesday 4 April - a glorious day - we set off to climb Scafell Pike from Wasdale. I was carrying 2 year old Jonathan, husband Simon had the picnic and 4 year old Thomas was having his first attempt at proper mountain walking!! It took 4 hours and lots of picnic but we made it to the summit!
The smile on Thomas' face made it all worthwhile! With the fabulous views he really was on top of the world. We got down in half the time - the promise of ice cream and Thomas literally ran down! Oh to be 4 again and not to suffer the aching muscles!
At just turned 4 surely he must be one of the youngest to summit under his own steam?
From Sarah, Simon, Thomas and Jonathan Lant

Hello there.
We made it up on Easter Monday 2007, and it felt brilliant. The two of us drove over from Hawkshead in the morning, over the Hardknott and Wrynose passes, and got an early taster of the low cloud. We were a little worried about getting lost in all the cloud once we saw Lingmell, but we had faith!
We took the route up from the foot of Lingmell up the stone path, and were more worried about having to come down it in the slippery wet than any thoughts about what lay ahead. Past Hollow Stones we were into the cloud, from about 300m, and huddled behind a rock for a moment for some cake. Mmm. Unfortunately then we made our way up without taking the easier route to the left, and ended up scrambling to the top of the ridge with loose slate underfoot. Finally a few anxious moments passed while trying to find the cairns that lined the path to the top, but then we were there!
Stopped for just enough time to eat a mars bar and take a photo, then hurried off again, it was freezing! Finally found the cairns leading down to the corridor route, and marvelled at how they managed to space the piles of rock just on the edge of visibility. First glimpses of the Lingmell Beck Valley were fantastic as we came back down through the cloud.
A real adventure, can't wait to go again

Richard Hough, Julie Catto, Kathryn Page and Iain Catto - Easter 2007 - amazing weather : sunny days and starry nights - it really was a Good Friday on top of England - and easier going than the lower level screes path back from Nether Wasdale along Wast Water on Saturday!! Fab weekend staying at the Barn Door Campsite and enjoying all that Great Gable brewery had to offer - thanks Giles! Thanks also to the brilliant shop for opening early morning for all the supplies we forgot, and to the very nice man in the Land Rover who pulled us out of the ditch. We will be back..

Hi please see the photo attached of Glen Tomlin and Kathryn Sloane who reached the top of Scafel Pike on the 4th April 2007.
Many Thanks

Enclosed are pics of me and Rob attop Englands highest mountain. We had been working at Ambleside YHA since February and this had been on the cards from day one. Due to a long and arduous application process Rob had decided to hide in his room for all of July so it wasn't until August that we finally got round to making the trip over the hardknot pass into Wasdale and pitching our tents in the near darkness and slight rain. We awoke the next morning to the most amazing weather, pure blue sky overhead and baking sunshine even at 8:30. We made our ascent via Scafell which was definately worthwhile and arrived at the top around mid afternoon with lots of other people lucky enough to not be at work in the middle of a week in August. The view was sublime, all the effort worth it and even the spam sandwiches were divine. Needless to say we are sure to return to the area, next time to conquer great gable and more!
Hope this makes it to the website,
Cheers
Ben Jones
former YHA staff

This was part of our 24 hour 3 Peaks Challenge.
We started out at 4.30am on 13th May from Wasdale Head in the dark and pouring rain. Got a little disorientated in the dark and missed the beck crossing at the base of Brown Tongue and had to do a little cross country to get back on track. Took the Lingmell Col path but our hopes for a beautiful dawn were thwarted. We couldn't see anything in the mist and rain and the climb to the top was more determination that pleasure. Finally made it at around 6.40am, bedraggled, but elated (see our picture).
Revitalised by success we went hell for leather down again and made it back to base at Wasdale Head by 8am!!

Hi, Hope all is well in Wasdale.
We recently climbed The Pike on Saturday 1st July following a wild camp at Great Moss, Upper Eskdale.
The party was:-
Les Peacock
Judy Peacock (wife)
Adam Peacock - aged 7 years and 2 days (son)
Jan Ogden (sister)
Absentee - Sam, a lovely, faithful, black Labrador (aged 14 now) - resting in kennels after a wonderful life of constant companionship on these magnificent hills
We ascended via Cam Spout waterfall and Mickledoor and had fine weather throughout.
We listened to Portugal beating England on penalties (again !!) on a small radio in the depths of Little Narrowcove on the way down.
Best Regards,
Les Peacock,
This is Chris Burrows, Mandy Harris and my daughter Shana Burrows,
We climbed SCAFELL PIKE on Sunday 30th July 2006, the weather was good and the view was worth the climb!
Hope to come and visit again soon!!!

My name is Eleanor Barker from Melton Mowbray and i climbed scafell pike with my Dad Chris Barker on Sunday 23rd of July. Im 9 and it took us 6 hours from Wasdale Head campsite. Thankyou to all the people who gave me encouragement when I was going up, but not to the person who said the shop at the top sold ice cream. Did'nt see much at the top as it was covered in cloud and got very cold and wet.

Hi,
my granddaughter Charlotte Stevenson aged 9 and my self William Stevenson 57, climbed Scafell Pike on 30/07/2006.
Charlottes first ascent my 3rd. We climbed from Seathwaite Farm, via Grains Gill,Esk Hause, Calf Cove and descended
via the Crridor route. Charlotte loved it. The weather was just perfect, bit cool on top and jackets were worn but as we
descended we were soon back in tee shirts.
We will be back for another climb in the Autumn.
Home town is Swinton, Manchester.
best regards
Adam Mathews on Scafell Pike summit 12-08-06 A lovely hot day but very cold on the summit.

Me and my two daughters climbed the Pike on 17/08/06 via the Lingmell, Brown Tongue, Hollow Stones route, it was the girls very first mountain climb and I feel not the last either as a great day out was had, on the way up my compass broke which ruled out a descent via the Corridor route which would have been much easier on the knees, so a return was made by the same route, on the top when we got there were just a group of German guys who one of took the summit photo for us and when they left we had the whole Pike to ourselves which must be very rare for the time of the year and viewable conditions which were pretty clear for the surrounding mountains and valleys although too overcast for much else, shortly on the way down a solitary male climber was coming up and we told him that he would more then likely be the only person on top which he also found very hard to beleive.
Elisha Bell, Age 10yrs

Hello
Three of us had a brilliant time climbing Scafell Pike last week but the shop (by the pub) selling the T-shirts was shut by the time we got back down! Is there anywhere we can buy them on line? We need a reminder beside the photos and the aching muscles!!
Many thanks in anticipation!
Laura

On Sunday 27th August I climbed to the summit of Skafell Pike with my husband, Paul Mirfin, and step-dad, John Coldwell. We started in the rain at Seathwaite and had a long walk and steep climb via the corridor route, before eventually setting eyes on skafell pike itself. We came back down via Broad Crag and Great End, finishing at the starting point with a cup of tea at Seathwaite.
Despite the cold, wet weather and poor visibility, the views were still fantastic as the constant shifting of clouds and odd beams of sunlight made the views everchanging and interesting to stand and watch ( when able to stand without falling on my ass !!).
For my husband and I it was the first time we had done any hiking and it certainly won't be our last- we're hooked ! The adrenalin rush of the day is still with us and we feel completely rejuvenated and restless to face another challenge ! We had a drive to Wasdale the next day and would love to try that route another time, and may be even the '3 peaks Challenge', who knows ?!

Great website, really enjoyed reading through it,
Here is two photos for the wall of fame. Please send through a certificate for printing.
Many Thanks
Richard Ashdown

Both myself, Colin Harris & my 26 year old son Christopher Harris climbed Scarfell Pike today 24/4/06.
We climbed via the Wasdale Lingmell route. It was very cold at the top once the sun went in!
Wind was buffeting but we managed, to get up through the gap between Scarfell & Scarfell Pike.
We climbed Green & Great Gable on Sun 23rd as well. Much warmer day!
Looking forward to climbing Scarfell next time!
Colin & Christopher Harris

Hi
I saw that sending a photo of oneself on the top would get me a printable certificate - is this so?
Here's mine - a great weekend at Lingmell House - I can thoroughly recommend it - although the weather could have smiled a bit more Regards Bob Gould Cheriton Fitzpaine Devon

This is me, my partner Nathan and my mum Dorothy at the top of Scafell Pike
on Wednesday 5th July 2006. It was a glorious hot day and feet were gladly
dipped in the streams we came to on our descent!
We had climbed Ben Nevis on the Monday and went on to do Snowdon on the
Friday.
We all loved the Lake District and will be back again as soon as we can!
Thank you!
Claire

Please publish this photo on your website. It shows Sam Henning (aged 7) on his first trip up Scafell Pike, along with his very proud dad, on 15/07/2006.
We started from the National Trust campsite, took the Styhead Pass path and cut across just short of the Pass on to the Corridor Route.
Sam insisted on proceeding to the top of Scafell, which we did, via Foxes Tarn Gully.
A glorious day, with unbroken sunshine and spectacular views.

i climbed it on tuesday the 18th 2006. heres a picture to use on the website.

Kelly Payne summitted snowy Scafell Pike on Friday 14th April 2006 and
although I was missing my brother Adam and friend Joe this year, was
accompanied by my trusty ma and pa, Kim and Charles (also pictured)! Am
proud to be the first one of the bunch to climb all three summits and loved
every minute!
Ascended via the corridor route from Wasdale head and descended via
Mickledore. Kendal mint cake always tastes better when its brought from The
Barn Door!!I thought you might like to consider this for the photo gallery. It was
taken during the descent from Scafell Pike from Mickledore by my proud dad
Charles Payne. I think the view into Mosedale across Wasdale head is
breathtaking and Pillar looks magnificant in the back ground! Seeing this
view on our way down was a perfect end to the walk!
Many thanks and best wishes
Kelly Payne

I would appreciate you adding this to your wall of fame!
On Friday 14th of April 2006, Myself (Lee Collins, 26), my partner (Gemma Sheehan, 21), and my eldest daughter (Jade Collins, 7) walked to the top of Scafell Pike. We went from Wasdale Head to the Summit via Hollow Stones and past Lord's Rake.
This was Jade's first ascent to the summit, but Gemma and I had been previously. Considering she is only seven, she did extremely well - even managing to walk the entire ascent and descent by herself!
She's going to have some jealous friends when she returns to school - after being the "Highest Person in England" albeit only for a short few minutes.
Many thanks
Lee

A group of friends and myself (far left) climbed Scafell Pike recently via the Corridor Route . The weather was fine but a little cold on the summit.
For some it was there first ascent of "The Pike" and I would be grateful if you could place this picture on your great website as I know they will all love it

Clive Perkins and Andy Harris climbed Scafell Pike on Friday 14th October as part of the Wainwright memorial walk to celebrate Andy's 40th birthday

Hello. From the left (des, sat nav and tom tom) climbed Scafell pike on the 23rd of October 2005 in 2hr. Unfortunately it took 6hrs to get down! as we took the
unintentional scenic route round the back of the Scafell range. Had a really good time doing it though

Only just discovered you; what a great idea. Here's my story & photos:
On 26 April 2005 , my friend David Longrigg (69) and I climbed the Pike and raised £1,300 towards a project at our church (St Giles in Oxford ). David had climbed Snowden & Ben Nevis, and wanted to complete the trio before he couldn't. I have been up several times which is why he asked me to help. It was a grey day as the photos show but we got up and down via Brown Tongue and Lingmell Col in about six hours, which I thought pretty good for someone nearly 70 who hadn't walked a mountain for years.
Thanks
John Clements

My dad (Ken Hughes) and I (Chris Hughes) arrived late at Wasdale Head at about 1:30pm so we agreed there wasn’t enough time to get to the top. Instead we thought we’d go part of the way and recce it for another day. Everyone seemed to be coming down as we plodded higher and higher until we were too close to stop. We reached the summit in 2 hours and 20 minutes. Great weather and stunning views from the roof of England

Hi, this is Janet and Lesley on top of Scafell Pike on saturday 24 September 2005 . Brilliant weekend spent in Wasdale Head carpark and the pub! and the only good weather when we were on the hill! Awesome

Hi
My name is Jack Stone, age 11.
I climbed scarfell on Monday 15th Aug 2005 , with my Dad.
We started from Wasdale Head camp site, up brown tongue to the first aid box, and then to the top.
We came down the corridor route to Stye Head, and then back to the camp site. It took us about 7 hours

Please could you add our Photo to the Scafell Pike Summiteers section of the website?
We climbed it on Saturday the 10th September in celebration of our wedding anniversary. We had fantastic weather as we ascended via Brown Tongue to descend via Esk Hause and Sty Head Tarn to retire to some fantastic food and drink at the Strands in Nether Wasdale.
Thanks,
Hugh and Nadine Kirby

On the 3rd of September 2005 , Thomas and Edward Latham (aged 6 and 3) managed to walk to the top of Scafell Pike . Tom and Edward were accompanied by Mum and Dad, and were offered plenty of encouragement from passing walkers on route. Both managed the full trip without a carry and walked straight up to the top from the National Trust campsite. All involved celebrated the day with refreshments at the Wasdale Head Inn

Callum and Finlay Paterson (aged 8 & 6) climbed Scafell Pike for the 1st time on Monday August 22, 2005 in fabulous weather, accompanied by Mum and Dad, Cameron & Sue Paterson. What started out as a "let's just walk up a little of the way", became a full blown effort, largely due to the sheer enthusiasm of the boys, who charged up the mountain with their parents in hot pursuit! We started at the National Trust car park at the head of Wast Water and headed up via Brown Tongue, taking the route betwen Scafell & Pikes Crags -- this proved very steep and a bit of a scramble, but great fun. We took the slightly more gentle route down via Lingmell Coll, and bathed our aching feet in the Gill at the bottom! A wonderful day out, a great achievement, and Dad is very proud of everyone

Christine Warburton age 7 at the top in 1975.
Route was from Wasdale Hd. via Mickeldore.
Now I don’t normaly respond to these notes, preferring instead to let the summiteers speak for themselves, but seeing as this is from 1975 I thought I would just say well done ! Guy (the WasdaleWeb)

The 'bald' guy(doing the classic catalogue pose) i Jay Nolan, and I'm the 'other one'. We climbed on 28th August in Misty / poor visibility conditions, from Wasdale campsite via Hollow Stones Just like to say that I thought the whole area was fantastic, my first time in the lakes! The lecture atthe Wasdale Inn by Simon Yates was an absolute bonus!thanks for a great time!!!
Cheers Dave.

Can you please put the following photograph on the website.
The Cadman family from Elford in Staffordshire climbed to the top of Scafell Pike on Thursday 18th August 2005 . The team consisted of Tom (aged 8), Katie (aged 11), Caroline and James (Mum and Dad), and Sophie (Chocolate Labrador).
Although the conditions at the top were not good, the experience of climbing to the top was something to remember (aching limbs etc)!

James Cadman

Gregory, William & Trevor Jenkins climbed Scafell Pike on Tuesday 16th August
2005 . Route from Wasdale Head via Lingmell Coll. Weather was good but low
cloud took out the view from the top. A good day, completed at the Screes
Inn. Thanks Wasdale

Attached is a photo of Matthew Brown, aged 11,who ascended Scafell Pike for the first time on Saturday August 20th 2005 at 1140 hrs.Matthew had been pestering me all Summer to get him up there after whetting his appetite on Snowdon last year. Not only did he climb this fell but we also took in Lingmell on the way up and Broad Crag,Ill Crag,Great End,Round How and Piers Gill on the way down and with some of the best views I`ve seen in 30 years of climbing the Scafells. He now wants to climb lots of other fells but I think he was so impressed with the sublime scenery of Wasdale that he`ll be back here many times, just like his dad who loves this place like no other.
Steve Brown (Dad).

Hi, please find a few pictures from an assent of Scafell Pike on Thursday 30/06/2005 by Ian and Keith Blatchford (Father and Son). We stayed in Windermere and travelled via Ambleside thro' Langdale and parked at ODG, taking the route via Rossett Gill and Esk Hause. We left the car at 0905hrs in mild, bright conditions but already the high peaks were obscured by cloud. As we entered the cloud the drizzle turned to rain and the protective clothing came out. We became a little lost around Esk Hause in the mist, but with the help of the compass we were soon over the boulders to the top. The summit was reached at 1240hrs and we couldn't see a thing!! We returned by a similar route, gradually taking off the clothing, and reaching the ODG in the same weather that we had left it!! The Old Peculiar was great.
The next day we climbed Helvellyn and the views were fantastic!
Ian Blatchford

Please post this piccy on your ace website.
My boyfriend (Steve) and I climbed Scafell Pike on 16 July 2005 in fantastic weather.
We went up via Hollow Stones onto Mickledore then also bagged Broad Crag, Ill Crag and Great End before desceding via Esk Hause and Lingmell Beck for a well earned pint in the Wasdale Head Inn!
Many thanks,
Fran n Steve

John & I climbed Scaffell Pike on the 21st May 2005 ,

Hi ,please find attatched pictures of myself and my 8 year old son shaun at the summit of scafell pike on sunday 29th may 2005.It was shauns first ascent of the pike and almost exactly 10 years since i first climbed it myself.Along with his mum we had walked from the national trust campsite up to sty head then up to sprinkling tarn bagging seathwaite fell as we passed, then on to esk hause before reaching the summit. After a short stay at the top for food and photos we dropped down to lingmell col and thenproceeded to climb to the summit of lingmell before descending to the campsite via the shoulder route.Needless to say shaun fell asleep very easily that night despite some noisy neighbours on the site.

We climbed scarfell pike on sunday 23rd may 05. It was a very
special day we were the only three people on the summit. My sister was
close to tears at times but she did it and feels amazing but very stiff
>today. It took us eight and a half hours

Attached are 2 photos of the Nottingham Swallows (Slow Walks And Liquid Lunches On WednesdayS) on the top of Scafell Pike on Monday April 25 2005.
The weather was perfect, bright sunshine and gentle winds we could not have picked a better day.

Hi,
Attached is a photo of myself and my fiance Andy on the top of Scafell Pike
on 22nd February this year. As you can see it was snowing and very cold on
the top.
We thought we were doing well to get up there in the snow, but not long
after we arrived a man appeared who had run up from Borrowdale, then along
come another two men, then finally two more with dogs in tow!
I made the mistake of booking a holiday ion Scotland this summer so I
suspect Ben Nevis is next on the list. Hopefully they'll be less snow in
August. Thanks to everyone who looks after Wasdale and makes it the special place
that it is.Heather

Dear Wasdale Web,
Maybe too many words and pictures...
Kind regards
Stephan
While on a round trip through Scotland and England in March 2005, my son Risto (12) and I -together with our travelling companion, "the little stool" - tried to climb the Scafell Pike on the 16th of March.
After a pleasant and dry night in the Murt Barn we added some flippers to our old VW-Bus and swam like a salmon against the current to Wasdale Head. The road was a rolling river. It was raining cats and dogs. But we had just this day for our run to the summit.
As soon as we left the lake, formerly known as the car park, it was obvious, that the run would be problematic. We had no chance to cross Lingmell Beck and its numerous distributaries. After an hour we went back to the River Road, soaked to the bone. Next problem: The bridge at the camping site was closed due to construction works. Desperate and drenched we found some friendly workers who let us cross the temporary bridge.
The ascent was slippery. Sheep ogled in their woollen high tech hydrophobic skin as we climbed through fog and rain. The ford to accross the Lingmell Gill was impassable. It took us a long time to find a place were we could bounce from stone to stone to the other side. The moisture in our shoes was no longer a problem.
After a while it happened: We got lost. The path disappeared, no steps, no marks, and the map, bought from a friendly young lady in the astonishing well-assorted globetrotter shop at the Wasdale Head was of no use at all. It got steeper and steeper. Cold wind, which blow the water uphill. One step forward, two steps back in boulder. An injury to my leg caused by a sharp-edged stone almost meant giving up on several occasions. Could man conquer the mountain?
Not this time. After a steep slope we reached a ridge. We went to the right and stopped in front of rocks. We could not see the top. The storm got worse and worse. At this point we decided not to dare our fate. The risk was too high! To this day I do not know were we were, but we got our photo from "our" summit. My son was very concerned because even though we were too tired to eat or drink I insisted on screwing our stool together for a picture.
After a short rest we began our descent, sliding and stumbling. The big blue-yellowish egg (ostrich, not quail) on my shinbone got larger and larger. Sheep, rocks and fog all looked the same. Once again we went astray. I am a little overweight but despite this I am a keen sportsman and not inexperienced in hill walking. But this was really hard. Into the bargain I got cramps in both thighs, but we had to climb up again luckily finding the path. I had never been more delighted to see litter on the mountain. We had passed it on the ascent and so we were sure we were back on the track.
Around two o´clock we were back at the car. We wrong out our clothes and drained the boots. A hot chocolate in the bar did wonders for the circulation and Scafell-T-Shirts are a nice memento, even though we did not reach the Pike.
We will definitely return to reach the summit. Last but not least to see were we were. The walking tour, the Valley, the Wast Water and the camping barn are unforgettable.
Even Edward Wymper failed several times at the Matterhorn. We are in good company.
Unfortunately the weather prevented any good pictures. Even the battery of my scuba diving camera gave up the ghost in the wet and the cold. Nevertheless I add some shots of our tour.

Here is a picture of me at the top on Wednesday this week, the 13th April 2005.Originally intended to do Kirk Fell and around the Mosedale Valley. The cloud lifted so quickly I had to go for the Pike!

The MacDermid 3 Peaks club last ascended on 16th October, and some of us
returned on Saturday 16th April. We were the first group there (about
midday), spoiling the smooth snow drifts with our footprints. The
horizontal icicles were fascinating - check them out on the trig pillar

Well done for a fabulous web-site - I kkep you on my 'favourites' so I can keep an eye on the Great Gable cam when I'm stuck in the office.
We've just had an excellent week at Burnthwaite - thanks to the Wasdale Web for that contact too!
I attach a picture of my daughters, Martha and Isabel on Scafell Pike on Thursday 31st March. They were absolutely determined to get to the top - we had a wonderful if strenuous 8 hours on the mountain - no views at the top as you can see, but wonderful on the way up. If you could send each of them a certificate for their achievement they'd be very grateful - they are VERY proud to have reached the roof of England !

My son Christopher and I climbed it on 31st March on our way back to Stoke the day after watching England at St. James Park. Christopher (shown in the photo) is about to start his Duke of Edinburgh gold award, so felt he needed a bit of training!
The weather was pretty good, although a thick mist had descended when we reached the top (see photo). We climbed up from Wasdale head car park and after negotiating the scree / rocks to reach the point where Scafell is on your right and the pike ~1 km over to the left, the mist gave the illusion that Scafell was far higher than Scafell Pike . Has anyone else ever felt the same?
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable day and we can't wait to return to Wasdale Head to tackle Great Gable and Scafell.

scarfell pike was hard as it was my first climb, but it was worth it

Dear Wasdale Web
James Cusworth (6 years old) climbed Scafell Pike on Monday 21st March, we set off from Stonethwaite to Seathwaite, climbed up Grains Gill, Esk Hause and visited Great End, Ill Crag, Broad Crag then Scafell Pike before dropping into Wasdale and having a meal at Wasdale Head Inn. James on his return journey was going to climb Kirkfell, Gt Gable, Green Gable, Brandreth, Grey Knotts to Honister Pass , but due to the time we had before darkness would fall, we decided to head up to Styhead tarn and take the Styhead pass back to Seathwaite.
The next day James visited Gt Gable via Honister Pass.
Keep up the Good work
regards
Jonathan Steele & James Cusworth

31/03/2005 - Julie and Bernie Millington from South Devon finally make a gloomy summit for the first time two days after their Silver wedding anniversary! Julie was heard to say " Well worth the climb to get the views. Wonder if it will be any better on our 50th!"

Hi,
Matt Palmer and his Dad Alan Climed up to Scafell Pike in June 2004, enclosed are pictures of us both at the meet-point at the top. It was our first climb, and we made it a bit exciting for ourselves by taking the path to the right, which leads you up through the gulley. Very interesting when its blowing a gale!! Pretty pleased we managed to make it safely to the top. We took the easy way down. Then climed Great Gable. We had a great time. The grub at the inn in wasdale was great as well. Just what you need after a bit of a trek.
regards from the south
