The Old Post Office Campsite : Santon , Wasdale

The old post campsite is a small family run campsite ideally situated on the western edge of the Lake District national park. First established in 1951 it has developed over the years into the perfect place to spend your holiday.

Situated in the quiet village of Santon Bridge, the site is bordered on one side by the River Irt – noted for it’s salmon, sea and brown trout, daily and weekly rods are available by arrangement with the owners.

Over the stile and across the bridge is the Bridge Inn, serving bar meals and real ale. Also within walking distance is a farm shop and a gift shop, telephone kiosk and post box.

Seascale, on the coast, is only 6 miles away with miles of sandy beaches, shops and childrens play area. For those who wish to travel further along the coast without driving the west coast main line at Seascale provides frequent and speedy travel to all coastal towns in Cumbria.

Wasdale Yurt Holiday

Fancy a holiday with a difference?

For the first time in the Wasdale Valley you will be able to experience a luxury camping holiday in a yurt.  Situated in the paddock at Rainors Farm B&B overlooking the Wasdale valley towards Scafell Pike and the Scafell Massif, the yurt will sleep a maximum of five people with soft, cosy, ethnic-style furnishings.  Not only will you have the luxury of a woodburning stove to keep you warm at night (and constant hot water for tea) you will be served breakfast in the house in your own dining room, have your own toilet and shower close by and wake up to the most spectacular views.  The Wasdale Yurt Holiday is great for families and friends and with its' romantic ambience is equally good for couples, honeymooners and anyone in need of some "yurt therapy".

Our yurt makers say:  "everybody yurts sometimes..."

Caravan and camping site at Holmrook, catering for touring & static caravans, mobile homes and tents

Situated between Gosforth and Holmrook on the A595, this superb caravan site provides accommodation for tents, caravans, mobile homes as well as having static vans for sale or hire. It is perfectly placed to explore the Western Lakes and offers the only business on the Wasdaleweb accepting touring caravans

National Trust campsite

wasdale NT campsite

The National Trust Wasdale Head campsite is situated at the head of Wastwater, at the bottom of the Brown Tongue path up Scafell Pike. It is a large family-friendly site with showers, a small shop and laundry facilities and is approx 20 mins walk from the head of the valley and the Wasdale Head Inn. As with all the camping in Wasdale, the site is not ideal for those wishing a camping holiday based around a holiday-style site, as the local area does not have those kind of facilities. As a base for a great activity type holiday in superb countryside it is, however, ideal.

Barn Door Shop

The Barn Door Shop offers basic camping facilities at the very head of the valley adjacent to the Wasdale Head Inn

It should be noted that as this site is close to the pub, is only for tents and has only toilets and fresh water for facilities, it is best suited for shorter stays and is perhaps not ideal for family-type car camping. The National Trust site above is ideal for those who desire that type of venue.
