Ghostly goings on in the church at the head !

As soon as this story went live I got a huge interest in it with people asking if it was a camera fault, or even saying it was a definately not a ghost, well who knows, but one of the stories seemed fit for publication, which is below.

If you have a story of Ghostly goings on in Wasdale let me Know and I'll put it live, if you've got pictures even better

Just a message regarding the hauntings at Wasdale Head Church, St Olafs.

My dad told my brother and I a story about when he was hiking at night and needed a place to stay. My dad and his friend decided to stay in the church. They knew nothing about the previous ghostly stories about the church and obliviously fell asleep in their sleeping bags, in the centre of the aisle. In the middle of the night they both heard footsteps coming towards them, without dareing to move they froze and didnt look out of fear. The footsteps stopped at their head, for what felt like a long time, they heard no breathing from the 'person', and it didn't speak, before the sound of the footsteps exited the church. To this day my dad doesnt know who or what it was, but has always wondered what he would have seen if he had turned around. He always put it down to being the vicor, but after my brother researched the church out of interest to see where my dad slept that night, he found this website, now my dad isn't so sure! He slept that night right under where the orb appears on the 28th Jan 2005 photo.

More ghostly going on in St.Olafs thanks to Craig Downey for this story

My grandfather told me of this story on your site and I have personally had a photo incident in the church.

My Grandfather Stewart Barker has always visited Wasdale as it’s his favourite place in the world and has taken me there since I was little.

We went over for the day last year and I took my new digital camera as I wanted to test it out properly. I took loads of pictures, some in and around the church.  All came out brilliantly but two.

I tried to take one down the centre of the church and it came out almost pitch black as if the flash was out of sync with the capture. Now this had never happened before and the batteries where brand new as I had just purchased them from the camping shop beside the Pub. I tried again and the same thing, I naturally thought the camera had broken somehow. Out of curiosity when we got back to the car I took a picture in the darkest spot of the car to see if it happened again as I was prepared to send the camera back at this point. The picture was fine.

With the camera I have software to enhance the quality remove glare increase brightness etc. I increased the brightness of the picture to see if I could fix it as my granddad really wanted one of the inside of the church. It made no difference to this picture except for one thing. There was a green blurred shape which to me looked like a person sitting on the bench facing forward right beneath where that orb was on that photo on your site. I was sure no one else was in that church and to confirm I asked my granddad and he agreed. I have not got the picture anymore as I just put it down to camera fault and deleted it but if you can imagine a really dark picture of the church right down the middle of the isles with a blurry green shape that came out after brightening it is a bit strange.

28 Jan 2005: Could this be a ghostly image captured in St.Olaf's?

For those of you who haven't seen the Most Haunted show on TV, there is much talk at the moment about Orbs. These are strange orb shaped images that are only seen when using a digital camera, and are taken to be the first stages of a ghost trying to make themselves visible.

Believe it or not there does seem to be a lot of sightings of these at haunted locations and there is no other explanation given as yet and their presence on photos when they appear on no other pictures taken by the same camera has as yet only been given this one explanation.

Well, one has been spotted in St.Olaf's church in Wasdale! There have over the years been many stories about haunting in the smallest church in England with figures being seen standing in the graveyard and dogs refusing to walk past it in the night. There have even been lights seen during the night when no lights were on and mysterious ringing of the church's one bell. However this is the first time an orb has been captured.

Shaun Thomas was visiting the church with his family and while his wife signed the visitors book he snapped a picture of the church and the family. Shaun describes what he captured on the image himself:

"My wife and two children have just returned from a holiday in the Lake District during which we visited Wasdale church.  I took two photos of the inside of the church and on transferring all the photos on my memory card to the computer discovered that one of the photos of inside the church has a ghostly orb hanging from one of the beams.

The photo was taken on 17th August, from inside of the church whilst my wife was signing the visitor's book situated near the entrance. My two daughters are in the foreground. The orb is clearly visible above their heads directly below the beam.

I did not know what this was and assumed it was an anomaly with the picture until a friend who is into spiritual stuff saw it and said it was one of the best orbs he had seen.

I have since looked for this stuff on the web and this does appear to be as good as anything on the sites I have viewed."

The pictures are below , ghostly image or not, you decide..
